Hey! I’m Ela :)
Bio:
I’m a storyteller, creator, and curator who is a big believer in the power of media. At NYU, I majored in Integrated Digital Media and minored in Film Production.
I was born in Nebraska to immigrant parents from Turkey, was raised in New Jersey and studied and worked in NYC, so I have my roots in a number of different places. As a result, I find great joy in traveling and growing my roots. I studied abroad in Abu Dhabi, and have traveled to India, Egypt, Oman, and Turkey. I take a lot of inspiration from the places I visit, the people I meet along the way, and the experiences and memories I create, which have greatly shaped the person I am today.
I love all things creative, but my true passion lies in visual storytelling. From film and television to photography, I aspire to be a part of telling compelling and powerful stories. I am especially interested in the process of putting a story together, i.e post production and editing.
I’m driven by the desire to contribute to more representation and diversity in media. I’m also very much inspired by independent filmmaking, as some of my favorite works of art come from independent cinema. I enjoy documenting my own experiences as well.
Creative Statement:
One of the things I value most in this life is the ability to observe. To watch people and places and things, study them, understand them, empathize with them. Technology (specifically the camera) affords me the great pleasure of capturing my observations. It allows me to make them permanent, so that I don’t forget. My desire is to understand and make sense of the world around me through the act of creation. My goal and hope is that my observations and documentations do the same for someone else.
