Trash

AI Powered Video Editing App, aquired by VSCO

Content and Community Management

At Trash, I came on as a Video Ontologist Intern and quickly rose to the position of Content and Community manager.

I was part of the Product Marketing team, and as the company’s sole video editor, my expertise was utilized not only in creating content but also in product development of the app’s AI Video Editor.

Trash was the perfect intersection of Art and Technology that I thrive in, and I learned a lot during my time there.

Creating short form video content using user generated content

In my role as Content and Community Manager, I was responsible for curating and featuring user-generated content in promotional materials. This included social video content, app store assets, paid marketing materials, magazine content, etc.

Here’s an example of a multi-purpose video used for social, paid promotion, and featured on the App store.

I also curated user’s videos in the app into different “channels”, like G.O.A.T (greatest of all Trash, aka staff picks) and other categories.

I regularly performed UXR, and collected and synthesized feedback from the community to relay back to the team in order to improve the app.

My fondess for Pop Culture was also beneficial and impactful for an app with a target demo of Gen Z/Millenials.

Generating Ideas and Collaborating

This video was part of a series of challenges we ran that served as creation prompts for our community following feature launches. In this case, the new feature was a “Throwback” Playlist we created as part of the launch of popular/mainstream music in the app.

As the team’s Video Editor, I regularly contributed ideas for product features from the standpoint of a creator and user, which heavily influenced the AI Editor in the app.

One of the most notable product features that I worked on directly was “Video Recipes” or “Styles”, which allowed users the ability to edit their videos in a desired style. These included music videos, vlogs, or more visceral styles like “Hype”. I also created different “filters” or LUTs in the style of famous movie directors (Sofia Coppola, David Fincher, Wong-Kar Wai, etc.)

I was also responsible for coming up with creative ideas like hosting the challenges in collaboration with fellow members of the Product Marketing Team.

I worked closely with the co-founders and the science/engineering teams to make these ideas come to life.

IFP Gallery Video Installation in collaboration with the Internet Archive

I had the honor and privilege of creating the video installation for our creator event at the IFP Media Center in collaboration with the Internet Archive.

You can read more about this Installation here.

More Work at Trash

Here are a few more videos I created for Trash on their Youtube channel.

You can also find more of my curation work on their Instagram which I was the content manager for.

Check out the Trash Mag for even more, which I helped run and publish.
